"Nurturing Student Motivation in ESL Reading"

This workshop introduced ESL teachers to theoretically sound, practical principles to promote and nurture student motivation in ESL reading. These principles can be implemented in a range of ESL classrooms, without changing the existing curriculum or drastically increasing teachers’ workload. During the workshop, participants had opportunities to learn about and practice implementing the principles into their own classrooms.
Dr. Reiko Komiyama is an assistant professor in the TESOL Program at CSU, Sacramento, where she teaches courses on second language theory and pedagogy, as well as linguistics. She has taught EFL and ESL in various settings including K-12, higher education, and adult education.
